Zelda: Breath of the Wild is Set During or After The Wind Waker Timeline

Although Nintendo brought an extensive gameplay demonstration of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at E3 2016, there is little known regarding the game’s timeline.

There has been quite a lot of speculations regarding the game’s timeline, but nothing concrete. Franchise’s longtime fans will take no time in seeing that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild draws obvious inspiration from the original Legend of Zelda and The Wind Waker.

One of the speculations state that The Legend of Zelda timeline splits into three after Ocarina of Time – one in which Link fails, one in which adult Link protects Hyrule against Ganondorf, and one in which a child Link stops Ganondorf’s plans in early stage.

Out of these, A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds revolve around failed adventures. Majora’s Mask and Twilight Princess revolve around child adventures. The Wind Waker, on the other hand, revolves around adventures of adult Link.

The speculation goes out to prove that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild takes place late into one of the aforementioned timelines. It supports the claim by the fact that Hyrule looks like old, ruined place with wilderness all around it. Moreover, the appearance of Korok looks like it came straight out of The Wind Waker.

Last but not the least, The Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild have some sort of correlation that none of the other titles have. But then all again, it is all speculation now and this is what we have until Nintendo of America confirms something concrete.

On the size of the game’s world, it has been confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild world size is tad smaller than Nintendo’s Xenoblade Chronicles X. Moreover, Nintendo has also confirmed that Breath of the Wild will definitely support a range of new Amiibo figurines.

As of this moment, we do not have a concrete release date, but The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is expected to launch sometime in 2017 for Nintendo NX and Nintendo Wii U.
