One of the coolest things that I ever came across during my extensive playthrough of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the mini card playing game called Gwent and have been craving for a standalone Gwent version.
During Microsoft’s E3 2016 media briefing, Polish developer CD Projekt Red took to the stage to announce what a lot of fans have been asking them for – a standalone Gwent game from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt called Gwent – The Witcher Card Game.
Standalone Gwent Game Announced
Gwent – The Witcher Card Game will be available both on Xbox One and Microsoft Windows 10 PCs with the ability to play cross-play between the two platforms:
Join in The Witcher universe’s favorite card game! In GWENT, you clash with your friends in fast paced duels that combine bluffing, on-the-fly decision making and careful deck construction.
During the conference, CD Projekt Red confirmed that for the standalone game, the developer completely overhauled the visual fidelity of the game as they have secretly been working on it for the past year. Some of the salient features of the upcoming game include a dedicated singleplayer campaign and the ability to craft your very own cards.
Play your cards right and manage a three-row battle formation as you unleash your hand over a best-of-three series of rounds. With heroes, spells and special abilities that dramatically turn the tide of battle, deception and clever tricks will be necessary parts of your arsenal.
While CD Projekt Red did not announce a concrete release date, the developer did announce a close beta. You can head over to the official website of the game and sign-up now which will go live sometime in September 2016.
Being a huge lover of Gwent in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, I cannot be more excited about the standalone game. Do make sure to check out the gameplay trailer attached above and share your first impressions with us in the comments section below!
