Everyone must be wondering what would be the key areas of balancing that Blizzard Entertainment will attend to in the next Overwatch patch. Let us shine the light on at least two areas – characters to be specific – which are going to get a good treatment.
The lead hero designer of the game, Geoff Goodman, has outlined what we can expect from the balancing patch that the game will now get.
Next Overwatch Patch Will Nerf McCree and Buff D.Va
Goodman first discussed what he thought was wrong with D.Va, highlighting her lower damage while also naming Winstons as another example of the same.
D.Va’s damage is definitely on the lower side, much like Winstons. They are this way for a similar reason: They are both very mobile and hard to kill. Every character in the game has strengths and weaknesses, it’s part of what makes the teamplay work well.
That might make you think he is okay with the situation she is in, but that is not the case, Overwatch developers think there is “room for improvement” in her case, he said.
Next up, McCree was discussed. Although Goodman agrees that her flashbang is a good reply to quick enemies as well as those that manage to come close enough to plant abilities with major damage, she does need to be nerfed a bit.
[McCree’s flashbang is] probably a bit too good at dealing damage to higher health targets such as Tanks and barriers. I don’t have any concrete changes yet, but I’m going to be testing some things internally to see how he plays.
While there is going to be a long list of other things that Blizzard Entertainment will adjust with the next Overwatch patch, this is all we have for now.
