Ubisoft has started giving out Watch Dogs 2 gift boxes to various members of the press, apparently in anticipation for revealing the game. Whether the game is revealed at E3 2016 in two weeks, or slightly before, however, remains to be seen.
The game will be the sequel to 2014’s action-adventure open-world game Watch Dogs, but will apparently include a new protagonist.
We don’t even know what’s in the Watch Dogs 2 gift boxes, because every tweet from the journalists that have gotten one are simply a small case with Watch Dogs 2 on it.
Watch Dogs 2 will most likely be unveiled at E3 at one of the conferences, but we know fairly little else about it. What we do know is that the game will likely feature a new protagonist other than Aiden Pierce from the first game. Ubisoft has also said that there will be even more ways to hack in the game than in the first Watch Dogs.
Another thing that’s notable is that journalists from Kotaku have said that Ubisoft plans to start releasing new Watch Dogs and Assassin’s Creed games on a bi-yearly basis, alternating the two out from year to year.
For instance, while Watch Dogs 2 is supposed to come out in 2017, another Assassin’s Creed game will be coming out in 2018, and on and on.
Hopefully Watch Dogs 2 will be better than the original Watch Dogs. Watch Dogs got a lot of controversy initially for promising more than it delivered, not to mention the well-documented graphics controversy where the graphics of Watch Dogs were downgraded from its E3 presentation in 2013.
What made that controversy worse is that the graphics engine that would put Watch Dogs back up was easily fixable and didn’t even put that much more strain on computers, which Ubisoft had used as an excuse for the downgrade.
Either way we’ll have to wait until E3 to see anything new about Watch Dogs 2.
