Fans of the classic Serious Sam series can rejoice now that Croteam has announced that they will be showing a trailer at E3 2016. Considering Croteam is mainly known for two games, there are only two things it could be: The Talos Principle, a puzzle game involving AI, or Serious Sam 4.
The first-person shooter series, which released its first game in 2001, has gained a reputation for being over-the-top and crazy, with players having access to a number of weapons that range from the normal to the insane. The Talos Principle was something of a departure from Croteam’s regular games, being a first-person puzzle game focusing around artificial intelligence.
Serious Sam 4 has been in the works for several years now, with Croteam even turning to Humble Bundle to try and get the game funded.
Serious Sam 3: Before First Encounter, was released back in 2011 for the PC before later being ported to consoles in 2012, and to Playstation 3 in 2014. Now, Croteam will be bringing a Serious Sam 4 trailer to E3 as part of Devolver Digital’s segment of the conference.
Devolver Digital, which now has a reputation for publishing a number of silly but fun games, will also be bringing Absolver, Strafe, and Shadow Warrior 2. Each of the times it has come to E3 it has had a strong showing, with games like Enter the Gungeon, BroForce, and updated versions of the Serious Sam games.
If it does turn out to be Serious Sam 4, hopefully Croteam hasn’t lost their touch since delivering Serious Sam 3. While the other games will most likely be very interesting too as with all of Devolver’s other published games, Serious Sam has been able to ingrain itself into the public consciousness since the early 2000s and at least one of its enemies, the Headless Kamikaze, is now famous (or maybe infamous) for its distinctive scream.
Whatever it turns out that Croteam will show us, we’ll just have to wait until E3 to see what they have in store.
