Price For Nintendo 2DS Dropped Again, Now Available For $80
It’s not been an year since Nintendo dropped the price for Nintendo 2DS to almost $100 from $129.99, and now Nintendo America has further dropped the price for Nintendo 2DS handheld console. The new price for this handheld is $80.
This $80 offer will still include the download code for Mario Kart 7 as past SKUs had. Nintendo 2DS was introduced in October 2013, this handheld is meant to be a low cost introduction to 3DS games.
However, the only difference between the 2DS and 3DS is that 2DS is stiff bodied as opposed to 3DS clam shell design. The Nintendo 2DS plays all the 3DS games without the 3D effects.
It is important to mention that the price drop comes only three weeks before the release of Kirby Planet Robobot on 3DS.
This price might be due to the fact that handheld market is being pushed to the bottom due to the smartphones and tablets. A new study has indicated that decline in Nintendo handheld consoles is due to smartphones.
The latest study states that the average child gets its smartphone at the age of 10.3. According to the study, the early introduction of the smartphone tech to a child is contributing to the decline of Nintendo 2DS and 3DS.
The research indicates that Nintendo 3DS is the fourth most popular device for entertainment for a car trip, however, the firm did not mention at what position Nintendo 2DS stands.
The data comes from a survey that was conducted online in the month of January and February and is based on 500 women. This study correlates with another study conducted in 2014 that suggests that children are more likely to game on a tablet than a handheld console.
