Overwatch Pharah Guide

If you play shooters aggressively and like to rush than Pharaoh is the hero you want. She is an aggressive assault hero in Overwatch and uses jet pack to take flight for a small period of time. The Jet pack gives her exceptional mobility and allows her to spot enemies from above – “Death rains from above.”

Her full name is Fareeha Amari, she is from Egypt where she was the head of security of an unknown entity.

A rocket launcher as her primary weapon mixed with her jet pack gives her plenty of flanking possibilities. If there is one character who can land you a hefty amount of kills and damage in Overwatch, it is Pharah. She uses her rocket launcher that is capable of dealing significant damage.

Overwatch Pharah Guide

Keep in mind that it may take a little time for you to get used to her weapon but once you do, it would rain kills. What makes her dangerous is her ability to take flight for a short preiod of time, giving her a nice view of the area to spot and kill enemies.

They won’t even know what happened.

Here’s a tip, use splash damage to cripple your enemies and multi-kills, rather than direct attacks. Her ability to go airborne allows her to be extremely effective against Reaper, Junk Rat, and Mei. However, she is vulnerable to long range characters so be aware of the enemies around you before taking flight.

Pharah Strengths and Weaknesses

The biggest advantage Pharah has is her ability to deal long range damage. Moreover, her direct damage is significant no doubt but players can benefit from splash damage just as much to disrupt enemy team and get multiple kills.

Her ability alone can wipe out an entire team if nailed at the right time and right situation. Her ability take flight makes her invulnerable to many heroes – Reaper, Mei and more.

She is not only viable for attack but defense as well.

As for her weaknesses, the rockets take some time to reach its target. They are slow but not quick as well. This means you need to either spam rockets and risk getting into cooldown/reload in the middle of battle, or get a hand of its timing and figure out how to best utilize her resources.

Her Ultimate ability is a team killer but at the same time makes her more vulnerable than usual. For more help on Overwatch, read our Hero Counters and Matchups, Mercy In-depth Guide and Genji In-depth Guide.

Pharah Abilities and Ability Tips

This section of the guide provides an overview of all the abilities and ultimate ability at Pharah’s disposal and how to effectively use these abilities in order to have more successful games.

Jump Jet
Propelled by her suit’s thrusters, Pharah soars high into the air

Concussive Blast

Pharah directs a continuous salvo of mini-rockets to destroy groups of enemies

Pharah’s Jump Jet protects her from close range enemies like Reaper, Mei, Reinhardt, and McCree. It helps her escape encounters she’s losing and define the distance of battle.

Moreover, get close to a battle between your allies and enemies and take flight to attack from above. press the spacebar to float in mid air.

Concussive Blast is a great way to cause confusion among enemies and disrupt their formations while you take flight and  start your attacks from above, being immune to close range characters and making rockets rain on others as they are still getting their bearings back from the blast. Do note that Concussive Blast allow Pharah to propel herself in any direction she likes.

Lastly, Barrage is her Ultimate which literally rains down plethora of rockets on enemy groups. It is deadly but leaves her vulnerable to fire as she won’t be able to move. Make sure you focus your fire on Genji, Lucio, Soldier 76, Widowmaker, Bastion, Hanzo, Roadhog, and Zenyatta as they all are able to take Pharah down.

Pharah Counters and Match-Ups

It should be clear to you by now that Pharah is highly effective against Reaper, Junkrat, Lucio, Mei, Mercy, Reinhardt, Zarya. Her jet pack allows her to stay at a distance and attack.

Meanwhile, she is highly vulnerable to long range characters like the Windowmaker, D.Va (who is able to reach the same height as Pharah), Roadhog (uses his hook to bring down Pharah), and Winston (uses his shield to protect himself from Barrage).

How to Play Pharah: Tips and Strategies

Pharah is an offensive hero with unique abilities that give her an edge over many different characters. She is a character with a high skill cap. Using her Barrage ability gives you multiple kills during intense encounters.

Her rocket launcher should be used to not only inflict direct damage but it is advised that you use splash damage to disrupt enemies, splash effect also has a throwback which can easily confuse enemies and not only make them vulnerable to you but your team as well.

She has a wide point of view due to her flight ability and if you can manage to stay undetected by an enemy group, the consequence for them can be devastating. While paying as Pharah your aim should be to rush and deal as much damage as you can.

Stay close to your healer for assistance.

When using Barrage, make sure you are around a number of enemies and they are engaged with your allies. This way there is less chance of anyone of them brining you down before Barrage is over. It is to be noted that Pharah is as effective on the ground as she is in the air.

Spamming rockets is an effective technique to overcome their slow speed.
