True to her one of the in-game abilities, Mercy is truly a Guardian Angel in Overwatch – provided that she is on your side – otherwise her constant healing can be insanely frustrating.

Playing as Mercy primarily revolves around flying from one teammate to other while providing buffs such as healing and increased damage output. In addition to this, she is also the only healer in the game who is capable of reviving multiple allies at the same time.

Overwatch Mercy Guide

Mercy boasts a total of 200 HP and is an easy healer to learn in the game. However, do note that she is somewhat squishy and can hardly get out of a tight situation without the help of her teammates. When outside battle, she slowly regenerates her health.

Mercy’s resurrection ultimate ability is easily one of the strongest ability in the game. When used at right time and on the right ally, the ability alone can change the course of the battle.

However, as easy as it may sound to pick up Mercy and start playing, target selection and knowing things like when to heal and when to boost damage is something that separates good Mercy players from bad ones.

Our Mercy guide details all her abilities, how to use them effectively, what are some of the heroes that Mercy is good/bad against in a match-up, what are her strengths and weaknesses, along with some general tips and strategies.

Mercy Strengths and Weaknesses

Unlike other healers in the game, Mercy can only heal one teammate at a time. However, she easily makes up for it, thanks to highest single-target healing in the game. Aside from healing, she can also boost the overall damage output of allies. Furthermore, her ultimate ability to resurrect dead teammates in some scenarios can change the outcome of battle.

Since Mercy is a healer through and through – and a really good one – she is extremely squishy and deals negligible amount of damage. Once focused, it is hard for her to get away which often gets her killed.

Mercy Abilities and Ability Tips

This section of the guide provides an overview of all the abilities and ultimate ability at Mercy’s disposal and how to effectively use these abilities in order to have more successful games.

Caduceus Staff
Mercy engages one of two beams that connect to an ally. By maintaining the beams, she can either restore that ally’s health or increase the amount of damage they deal.

Caduceus Blaster
Mercy shoots a round from her sidearm. It’s best reserved for emergency personal defense.

Guardian Angel
Mercy flies towards a targeted ally, allowing her to reach them quickly and provide assistance in crucial moments.

Angelic Descent
Propelled by her Valkyrie suit, Mercy slows the speed of her descent from great heights.

Mercy radiates restorative power, bringing nearby dead allies back into the fight with full health.

You need to use Guardian Angel to move from one ally to other repeatedly and keep them at full HP. Since the 2 seconds cooldown is almost non-existent, you need to make sure that you are providing healing and damage boost to most of your allies. Since you are a squishy healer, you can also use the ability in order to escape an unwanted fight.

Caduceus Staff is the tool around which you need to play as Mercy. Once you see that an ally is already at full HP, you should consider heading to another ally or increase his/her damage output.

There is no doubt that Mercy’s Resurrect is an absolute game changer when played at right time, but do note that there are some things to be considered here. Firstly, do note that you must cast the ability in close proximity of the fallen comrade and must do so within 10 seconds of their deaths. Once done, every dead ally hero within the area-of-effect will get revived!

Mercy Counters and Match-Ups

When we talk about counters and match-ups, Zarya can kill Mercy in a straight up 1-on-1 match-up. Moreover, it is extremely hard to kill Mei in a 1-on-1 while playing as Mercy.

However, do note that Mercy’s res. as a counterplay to wombo-combo ultimate ability should be kept in mind. As for countering D.Va, you simply need to fly at her in order to separate her from the team and get an easy elimination.

How to Play Mercy: Tips and Strategies

Mercy is probably one of the best and one of the most powerful healers in the entire game which is something you need to capitalize on. Since she can heal through opponent attacks, try to keep your tank well-healed throughout the game.

Since you cannot do much of damage on your own, when not healing teammates, try to boost their overall damage output so that they are able to secure some eliminations. While it can be tempting to save your ultimate ability for perfect moments, do note that your healing charges up the UA pretty fast, giving you the freedom to continue to resurrect allies in the heat of battle.

Since you are relatively squishier than other healers in the game, always try to be on the backline and with your team to be most effective. As a good Mercy player, you need to learn how to heal at appropriate moments and most importantly; when to heal and when to provide damage boost.
