How to Fix Doom errors, crashes, resolution issues, low/poor fps and performance, full screen issue, bugs, red screen and other related issues.

Behold! The modern iteration of our beloved franchise is here and it does not fail to deliver on its promises. Doom was announced last year at E3 with a bang and after successful alpha and beta sessions, the game has been made available to the masses.

Current Status of the game is not bad performance wise and many people are enjoying it without any issues. However, there are some who are facing issues and are looking for relevant fixes.

We are sure that Bethesda will roll out patches to address the prevalent issues in future but in the meanwhile, you can refer to our troubleshooting guide to find possible fixes and workarounds related too Doom.

Doom Errors, Bugs, Crashes and Fixes

#1 Doom Disk Write Error
Alright, first thing you should do is verify your game files. If that didn’t work, you should make sure that you have sufficient free hard drive available for the game. Still not fixed? I will recommend to run a hard drive scan (chkdisk).

If the problem still persists, you should try installing the game in another location. If you have the game on an external hard drive, try moving it to the built in one.

#2 Doom Red Screen Fix
Some users have reported that they are facing red Screen on launching the game. If you are facing the same issue, you should quit any overlay softwares like Evolve. This should resolve the issue.

#3 Doom – Level 2 Bug, Locks You Out
There is currently a bug in level 2 where you go back through the door you came instead of using the elevator. In that case, the door behind you might get locked. If you are stuck, reload the previous save and use the elevator instead.

#4 Doom – Brightness Issue Fix
If your screen is too dark and you can’t see things clearly, you need to increase the gamma setting bar in options menu. This should fix the problem for you.

#5 Doom – Game Crashes after Syncing
The crash can be due to multiple reasons. If you have already verified your game files, try disabling any third party applications (any overlay tools like evolve etc) running in the background.

It goes without saying that you should have latest drivers installed on your machine. If you are using a laptop, you should make sure that the game is being run by using the dedicated GPU (Nvidia/AMD).

Also, there can be a possibility that your antivirus/security tool might be interfering with the game. Try disabling them to see if that’s the problem. If it is, add an exception so that game can connect to servers properly.

#6 Doom Resolution Fix
Some users have reported that at 1080p or higher, they see a window in the top corner and the screen doesn’t scale as it’s supposed to be. In that case, there is a workaround that you can try out. It might have some steps but it’s fairly simple to do and definitely worth of a shot.

#7 Doom – No Full Screen on Laptops
The workaround mentioned in #6 should also address the issue for laptop users.

#8 Doom Shadowplay Fix
If you are unable to record footage through conventional way, try enabling the desktop mode and then record through it. You may not see an FPS counter but the footage will be recorded.

#9 Doom Crashes – [press none to continue] Error
You might face this error because you have changed the default keybindings specially Tab. Reset to defaults and the problem should be fixed.

#10 Doom Crashes at 98% Loading
Just verify your game files and the issue should be fixed.

#11 Doom Performance Issues
First thing you should make sure that you are using latest GPU drivers and your system requirements exceed the mentioned minimum requirements. Now if you have a good enough PC to run it at medium/high, I will recommend that you disable the Vsync to get a considerable performance boost.

#12 Doom Crash Fix After the Logo
If none of the above mentioned fixes have worked for you. Quit the game and update your drivers. Restart your PC and it should work fine now. Users have reported that they game starts lagging/stuttering badly after the logo appears. These are the symptoms expected to be fixed after the update.

#13 Doom Poor Performance for AMD Users
If you are using the latest drivers and still experiencing poor performance on AMD, you should quit the Evolve application before you start the game. Evolve has been reported to cause issues for the game and may be responsible for performance hindrance too.

#14 Doom Mouse Acceleration Fix
If you too are annoyed by mouse acceleration in doom, you can add this property “+set m_smooth 0” in launch options. You can access the launch options by right clicking the game icon in your games library.

#15 How to Skip Intro Videos in Doom
You can add another property in the launch options to skip the intro videos as they can be annoying sometimes. Adding “+com_skipIntroVideo 1” in the launch options should make the intro videos disappear when you launch the game.
