Report Claims Xbox Next is Powerful than PS4K, We Are Not Convinced

Xbox Next is more powerful than PlayStation 4K, according to a new report from X-World. It is hard to believe and here's why that is...

Just hours ago, a report was published by Eurogamer Italy citing X-Rays as the primary source. The report was published yesterday but didn’t generate a lot of buzz until Eurogamer ran the story.

The report claims that Xbox Next, which is the rumored upgrade of Xbox One, is happening somewhere around E3 and will be more powerful than PS4K.

PS4K is rumored to have:

  • Original CPU 8 Jaguar Cores at 1.6 GHz
  • CPU 8 Jaguar Cores at 2.1 GHz
  • Original PS4 GPU AMD GCN, 18 CUs at 800 MHz
  • Improved AMD GCN, 36 CUs at 911 MHz
  • Original PS4 Memory 8 GB GDDR5, 176 GB/s
  • memory 8 GB GDDR5, 218 GB/s

The console can push the game’s 1080p native to 4K, however, it is unable to provide native 4K. Also, 4K media is supported.

So if Xbox Next is more powerful than PS4K, it should be easy for it to do native 4K. Well, if we believe anything the report has to say, it can actually do 5K based on the specs they are claiming it has.

The report says that it is 5-6 times more powerful than PS4K and can do 10 TFLOPS. That is twice as much raw performance than Nvidia’s $650 GTX 980 Ti and AMD’s Fury X. In fact, it is more than what the mighty Titan X can do, if I am correct, Titan X can do 7 TFLOPS of single precision.

It is ludicrous to believe that something like this can be released in the console space as an upgrade to Xbox One or even as a brand new console itself. It would mean selling the console for over $1000, and still at a loss.

X-rays anonymous source mentions (rough Google translation):

I’ve got to read some slides from Microsoft and AMD about the new Xbox, and it is in effect a new model, not a remake of One. They should announce this year at a separate event from E3 2016, but still a few days before the fair. the announcement will be made this year but the release of the Xbox next is not expected before next spring, to read the roadmap. it will be open to change hardware, I did not understand if via upgrade or if they spoke of changes that will operate on the fly, before the release. it will be extremely powerful from the start, i think 5-6 times PS4 Neo, then something in the order of over 10 TFLOPS or so

I would be shocked if something like this ever releases in the console market. It seems vetting your sources is a dying art.
