Oculus is against the use of Revive hack tool, suggesting it might not work indefinitely.
Revive hack tool lets the owners of HTC Vive play Oculus Rift exclusive games on their virtual reality headsets. For now the hack allows Lucky’s Tale and Oculus Dream Deck to be played on HTC Vive.
It is obvious to assume that Oculus is not happy with this hack because they invested for the development of these games so they can remain exclusive to their platform.
The statement issued to Extreme Tech by Oculus:
This is a hack, and we don’t condone it, Users should expect that hacked games won’t work indefinitely, as regular software updates to games, apps, and our platform are likely to break hacked software.
Revive only allows to play two titles but its creators suggest that it might be possible to play other games with it. Question is, would they overcome the issues caused by imminent future updates?
However, to use this hack users still need to purchase these games as the hack only lets you play the game on HTC Vive not pirate them.
Lucky’s Tale is free with every Oculus Rift purchase which means majority of the users who own the game own Oculus and its pointless for them to use this hack. The hack allows the HTC Vive users to use their Room scale user tracking to walk around in these titles.
