Players who bought Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will be able to play the Gears of War 4 beta when it releases on April 25. The codes for the beta will be released in batches, which will unfortunately cause people to have to wait either hours or days after the beta actually starts.
Players will, however, be able to get into the game early as long as you play Gears of War 4: Ultimate Edition on Xbox One or Windows 10 by April 11 at 11 p.m., Pacific Time.
The Gears of War 4 beta will be available on the Xbox One to all Xbox One subscribers on April 25, you’ll just have to have the Ultimate Edition if you want to play it early. The beta will continue until May 1 and end there, in anticipation of the game’s release this coming October.
The very first Gears of War 4 trailer released yesterday, backed up to the appropriately somber notes of Disturbed’s cover of Simon and Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence” and heartwarming images of JD Fenix, the protagonist, interacting with our old buddy Marcus, his father.
While Marcus has been confirmed to not be showing up in Gears 4, hopefully JD will be a compelling enough character to fill his shoes.
Gears of War: Ultimate Edition also had a beta before it was released. The beta released on June 15 back in 2015, while the game released in August.
If what the Ultimate Edition beta had is carried over to the Gears of War 4 beta, we can most likely expect multiplayer ranks, weapon and skin unlocks, and more.
Unfortunately, players of the series in China and Japan will not be getting a beta, but the game will be getting a booth at PAX East on April 22, allowing you to play the Gears of War 4 beta if you either don’t have an Xbox One but want to try the game, don’t have Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, or you just can’t wait for it to come out.
