Rod Fergusson, Studio Head of The Coalition has released a short video of Gears of War 4 gameplay showing the gruesome death of one the new enemy characters using a weapon called the Dropshot.
Presumably a member of the Swarm, taking over from the previous trilogy’s locust, the character receives a large ballistic through the top of his head that takes it clean off in a classic Gears of War style, before the rest of his body explodes. Gory enough for you? Well take a look at it below:

The Dropshot is a new weapon for the series, and GameInformer managed to secure some time with the gun earlier this year. They say “The Dropshot fires an aerial mine that floats over the battlefield in a straight line as long as you hold the trigger. The moment you let go, the mine spins downward violently. If it hits the ground, it drills for a second before exploding, blowing anything nearby into chunks. If you manage to nail a direct hit on the enemy, it drills directly into their head, decapitating them while their body convulses until the mine explodes.” Sounds like it will fit right in to the Gears Universe.
The Gears of War 4 gameplay comes from the multiplayer portion of the game, that is currently being ‘toured’ by Fergusson. It will however be made available to the public from April 18 provided you have played Gears of War: Ultimate Edition at least once by now. The closed beta will run until April 25, when it will then become open for everyone to sample and enjoy.
There’s been plenty of Gears of War 4 news this past day or so, with a new emotional story trailer dropping last night. Gears of War 4 will release on October 11 for Xbox One, with a PC version heavily rumored but as yet unannounced.
