Fable Legends development may continue after all, according to a new report from MCV. Three different sources from Xbox Studio told MCV about the possible survival of Fable Legends.
The development of Fable Legends came to a sudden end when Microsoft decided to cancel the game and consider the possible closure of Lionhead Studios.
At the time Microsoft and Lionhead shared the following statement:
After much consideration we have decided to cease development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK. Additionally, we will close Press Play Studios in Denmark, and sunset development on Project Knoxville.
The report claims that the staff at Lionhead is being surveyed if they would like to continue working on Fable Legends or would they accept the redundancy package.
According to a Microsoft spokesperson:
We aren’t sharing additional details beyond that we have ceased development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees at Lionhead about our proposed closure of the studio as well
Fable Legends was almost complete before Microsoft scrapped it. Beta invites were sent out just a few days before the news of its cancellation broke.
Microsoft cancelled the game because it wanted to invest in games that people are more interested in. Their statement was a little strange as Fable Legends was well-received.
