If you’re not convinced by the Virtual Reality set then maybe rumours of a new lightsaber-swinging Star Wars game may tempt you.
The idea comes from Industrial Light and Magic who are behind the rumored project. A video was briefly available on their YouTube channel before being set to private, but fortunately for us a few screens were grabbed to give us an idea of what to expect from this Lucas-inspired game.
Provisionally called Star Wars: Trials on Tattooine, the game looks to feature lightsaber action for the player as well as various story-telling sections with dealings on Tattooine involving R2-D2 and some Stormtroopers. We also get to see a glimpse of the Millenium Falcon swooping through the air which would make for an intense adventure with virtual reality. Not a whole lot is known about the experience, or if it is even a game, with nothing official having been confirmed yet so we can only consider the project a rumor so far.
Industrial Light and Magic, or ILM for short, are no strangers to the Star Wars universe so this news doesn’t come as too much of a surprise. Last year they formed the ILM Experience Lab where virtual movies and experiences were to be created, and within the launch video Star Wars and indeed the HTC Vive were featured heavily.
Described as a ‘Cinematic Virtual Reality Experiment’, the expected release wouldn’t be too long after the full HTC Vive launch in April. The VR Headset was delayed originally, and with Star Wars: The Force Awakens having released at the end of 2015 it was expected that this experience would have arrived around the same time. Clearly that wasn’t to be but it does mean that Star Wars: Trials on Tattooine may be available rather soon, if at all.
