Dead Island 2 Gets New Developer, Development Continues
Dead Island 2 gets new developer from UK.
Dead Silver has finally found a new developer for Dead Island 2. Development duties are handed over to Sumo Digital. It is an indie studio based in United Kingdom.
Sumo Digital is known for developing Forza Horizon 2, Virtua Tennis 3, Little Big Planet 3, Outrun 2 and much more. It is safe to say that the studio is more than capable of handling a project like Dead Island 2.
Speaking to MCV, Koch Media CEO Dr Klemens Kundratitz
Sumo showed so much understanding of the brand, had creative ideas and an excellent, vision that was aligned with our own. It just made perfect sense for us to move the project to them. We will reveal more details at a later stage, but for now I’d like to say that we are obviously super excited about the progress that we are making with them.
Meanwhile, Sumo COO Paul Porter was excited to be given the opportunity to develop Dead Island 2.
It’s an honour to be charged with the evolution of such an important franchise in Deep Silver’s catalogue. We’re looking forward to exceeding fan expectation with an ambitious design that we’re confident will take bone-crunching, visceral, zombie action to a whole new level.
Since the announcement of Dead Island 2, it has faced a rocky road. German developer Yager was taken off the project by Deep Silver and for a while, there was no news regarding the future of Dead Island 2. Many were wondering if it would ever see the light of day.
Now that the title has gone back into development, I guess we can expect a release in late 2017 or early 2018, depending on what parts of Yager’s Dead Island 2 they salvage.
