The developers behind The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt and the much anticipated Cyberpunk 2077, might be looking to explore the world of virtual reality with a new project this year! Their latest earnings call ended recently and it has hinted at a CD Projekt Red VR game.
Okay, I might have added some of my own speculation to that but here’s what happened. While outlining their goals for 2016 during the conference, they mentioned three things.
The first was the release of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt Blood and Wine expansion, the second was about implementing “new promotional and marketing activities supporting continued sales of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, and finally, the third goal is about “a new type of video game format previously unexplored by the studio.”
Alongside this, CD Projekt Red also held a Q&A session at the end of the conference where they revealed their interest in virtual reality.
They already have a couple of development kits being used around the studio, they are playing around, pitching things, testing the waters and so on. However, in their opinion currently the VR tech is in a raw “beta” form that will get polished with time.
The CD Projekt Red VR game will probably happen, they just want to be sure that the technology is polished enough for them to add value to the experience and story of their games.
In my opinion, they have shown enough interest in the field for us to start expecting a title, however, they say that the new format game they want is in their plans for 2016, but they are still looking into VR at this point; could this mean that they just expect to start the development this year?
We are as eager to know more about the CD Projekt Red VR game as you are, so we have reached out to the studio for a comment and will let you know as soon as we have something.
