Bethesda have revealed that Fallout Shelter is the most played Fallout game. This revelation comes though based on game sessions and not the length of actual gameplay.
This little piece of trivia was revealed during the 2016 DICE chat with Todd Howard. He revealed:
“I think the last stat was 4 billion sessions, making it the most played Fallout game of any Fallout games combined. It brought in an audience you’d never expect.”
While this may sound impressive we have to remember that this is based on “sessions” of the game and not actual length. It is safe to assume that based on actual game time this would be much more.
What this does show though is just how popular Fallout Shelter has become, and there is no doubt that Bethesda were taken by surprise as to just how successful it has been.
First released on iOS at E3 as part of the Fallout 4 reveal, Fallout Shelter then moved onto Android as the build up to Fallout 4 came closer. Revealing characters from the main game and staying relevant to the Fallout story it proved popular with Fallout fans and casual gamers a like.
There is no doubt that Bethesda will be taking notice of the “most popular Fallout game” and the success they have had with it. Maybe when they release their three upcoming projects they’ll also include companion games like Fallout Shelter to go along with them.
