Consoles causing developers to hold back PC version of a game isn’t something new. Unfortunately, this is the case with the PC version of The Division as well. At least according to an anonymous Ubisoft developer.
The news of The Division being held back on PC due to parity came from YouTubers Team Epiphany. They were invited to New York to check out a post-beta version of the game. During their visit they spoke to a Ubisoft developer who revealed some pretty concerning information.
When asked about parity between platforms, the developer sid:
It is definitely a [factor]. But one good thing about The Division is that we’ve always considered PC as a separate platform. I’ve worked on projects before where the PC version’s a port from a console, so it carries those limitations over, but we’ve always been in the mind that we’ll have a dedicated PC build, so it hasn’t really held it back too much.
He went of to say:
We do have to kind of keep it in check with consoles because it would kind of be unfair just to push it so far away from them.
Holding back the PC version just to be fair to consoles is unnecessary and ridiculous. Sadly, this isn’t the first case and it won’t be the last one.
The Division is indeed a great game and this shouldn’t change things. I would still be picking up The Division on March 8, what about you?
