XCOM 2 – How to Unlock the Psi Operative

This guide details everything that you need to know in order to unlock the Psi Operative in XCOM 2:

How to Unlock the Psi Operative

Eliminating a Sectoid
Throughout the early game, you will come across plenty of Sectoids posing a significant threat to your entire squad. The first thing that you need to do is to eliminate one of these during the early game.

Do so and its corpse will automatically become available at the base. At this time, you need to return to the base and head over to the Research Lab.

Once there, you need to ask Dr. Tygan to perform a Sectoid Autopsy. Do note that the process usually takes some time, so make sure to return once you hear from Dr. Tygan that the autopsy has been completed.

Building a Psi Lab
Once the autopsy has been completed, you need to ask Dr. Tygan to run Psionics research – a process which will again require some time so get back to your business and return later.

After the process is complete, you will see Psi Lab under Build Facilities, however, do note that it will require 175 Supplies, 10 Elerium Crystals, 5 Power, 21 days of base research time, as well as 55 Supplies for a monthly upkeep.

Psi Operative Training
Once the lab is up and running, you can assign any soldier to undergo Psi Operative training which will always yield one hundred per cent results. Once again, this process requires time which can be reduced by assigning an engineer to the Psi Lab.

After you have a Psi Operative at your disposal, you will need to continue training at the Psi Lab in order to gain promotions; unlike other soldiers.

As for the starting ability, it is randomly selected from a total of 4 initial powers and it goes on from there. Since the progress is highly unpredictable, it is very much possible that you gain access to high-level abilities during the early game and vice versa.
