DUST 514, the first person shooter free to play title that is set in the Eve Online universe has been around for quite some time. However, once the game completes two years, the developers will be shutting the game down.
CCP Games has announced on the official forums of the game that they were going to use the developers on a new game that was being built from scratch. While they did not discuss anything else about this unannounced project, the intention is to learn from the shortcoming of DUST and build a better game, set again in the Eve universe.
This is important because if you liked DUST 514, you will be glad to know that it will be “keeping many of its great parts.”
However, it is pretty much clear that CCP has learned that this first person shooter was not going to be the game they wanted it to be. Whether they say it or not:
We consider DUST 514 one of the best free-to-play offerings on the platform, but the years have caught up with us. It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that DUST 514 will be shutting down on May 30th, 2016. We therefore will not be releasing the 1.3 update as we had planned. Players will continue to be able to play for free on our servers until then, but all further PSN packs and purchases have been removed and disabled from the in-game marketplace and the PlayStation Store.
So there you have it. You can go about killing things as much as you want in New Eden but before May 30.
