In the first week of January it had been revealed that the PC version of Minecraft has surpassed 22 million in terms of sales; the comparatively nascent Wii U Edition of the game is also going pretty strong as the game has managed to beat everything else that was being offered on the Nintendo eShop.
Despite not being a local game for the Japanese region, the sandbox title is giving a tough time to some of the biggest Wii U titles we have at the Japanese eShop.
The games that have made it to the top sellers list, while being beaten by our good old blockey title include Splatoon, Dragon Quest X and a number of Mario titles. Here’s a rundown on the top ten bestselling games on the Nintendo eShop:
- Minecraft Wii U Edition
- Dragon Quest X
- Super Mario Maker
- Pokemon Rumble U
- Mario Kart 8
- Art Academy: SketchPad
- Super Mario World
- Mother 2 (EarthBound)
- Super Smash Bros for Wii U
That being said, there are other big names that these games have left behind in the list like Super mario 3D World, PIkmin 3, Super Mario Bros, New Super Mario Bros U and even Super Mario Galaxy.
What makes this all the more interesting is that the game doesn’t even make use of the second screen provided by the Wii U GamePad – something that has been cardinal to the success of a number of other titles on Nintendo’s latest console.
Kudos to the Minecraft Wii U Edition developers, good job folks!
