Overwatch Closed Beta Pushed to Mid-Feb for New Game Mode and Maps
We had been promised an Overwatch closed beta testing phase one of these days but it looks like the developers need some more time. You are not going to get to test the game until we are well into February!
So Blizzard says that they are “not quite ready to bring the Closed Beta back online just yet,” because although they have progressed a ton, there are at least a few features that they wish to include in the upcoming beta phase.
The developers have thus confirmed that they are “working on a new game mode. And we’re very excited about it! And we have some great new maps to support it, too, but we need a little more time to get everything just right.”
As of now, you could be looking at a mid-February launch date with a promise that the plans will not get yet another push down to March.
On the upside, Blizzard says that during these additional weeks they will not only get us the new game mode and the new maps but also a better rewards and progression system for the game:
Rather than try to rush a beta patch out this month (which would mean the new game mode would have to be put off), we’re going to take a few extra weeks before bringing the Closed Beta back. By doing so, we can make sure we can include the new game mode along with the new maps. This will also allow us to do some additional polish to the game’s progression and reward system. Though all these features will still technically be a work-in-progress during the beta, we’d like them to be at a certain quality bar before releasing them for testing.
We will notify you one week before the Overwatch closed beta starts, so keep an eye out for news here.
