With the PC being a less restrictive platform to release games on it tends to get some of the more independent titles, as well as big releases. It is interesting to see just how well these games sell, and what dominates sales.
Based on data from SteamSpy the best-selling games of 2015 is an interesting list to read. As you can see in the image below, Grand Theft Auto 5 tops the list. This is no surprise as the game has proven to be popular on the PC now that it has finally arrived. To see Fallout 4 so high is interesting, especially with its release later in the year.
What is pleasing to see if that some independent games are high on the list too. H1Z1 is a game popular with Streamers and has had a big year, even though it is still part of the Early Access system on Steam. ARK: Survival Evolved is another that is seeing similar popularity and is making its way to Xbox One.
Looking down the list it comes as no surprise that we see The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, and a few others. Even Batman: Arkham Knight made it only the list. Though I’m surprised to see it listing about Mad Max which in my opinion deserved more attention that it appears to have got.
What we do have to remember is that these stats are only based on Steam and do not include the other gaming services like Origin and UPlay. What you do have to also wonder is if these are actual “Steam sales” or do they include code purchases from other sites?
