Now that Hideo Kojima has started up his own independent studio, Kojima Production many are eager to hear juicy gossip about his split with Konami. It sounds like that we won’t be getting any details from Kojima himself any time soon, or maybe even ever.
In a recent interview with the New Yorker it is revealed that he is still contractually forbidden from talking about the split:
“Now that his employment contract has expired, Kojima is able to speak freely about what he describes as a “new start”—a relaunched, independent Kojima Productions. (He remains, however, contractually forbidden from talking about the prior split.)”
While people who enjoy gossip may feel disappointed, at least we can be happy with the fact that Kojima is back creating games and doing what he does best. With many potential titles possible, it is good to look to the future instead.
In the interview, he also gave a comment what he is planning for the future, and how he views the games he creates:
“Every time I create a game, I think it’s going to be the last time,” he told me. “In much the same way that a mother isn’t thinking about her next pregnancy during childbirth, I can’t think of the next game till the one I’m working on is out.”
Now that he is working on his new game, which will be coming to the PlayStation 4 (and PC) hopefully it won’t be his last. Whether he can still create games on the grand scale of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain with his new studio will be interesting to see.
