Hideo Kojima, the iconic developer behind Metal Gear Solid, has left Konami to partner with Sony for his new game. Kojima has opened the doors of Kojima Productions, his independent Studio which gives him the luxury of being his own boss.
Hideo Kojima joined up with Sony and even though it was expected, as there is a lot of history between the two, Kojima still felt that it is best to share the reasons why he choose Sony for his first game without Konami.
It’s thanks to Sony that I was able to make a splash in the global market. It’s been 10-plus years since then and the working relationship at Sony, the people at Sony, we gel well. People at Sony have been friendly with me, I work well with them. I got several offers from many different companies, but with Sony it came to a point where I know these people, we know each other well. I feel like this is an environment where I will be able to make something and be comfortable. And I believe that is the environment I need right now.
Kojima and Sony are a match made in heaven but that doesn’t mean gamers on other platforms will be left out. Kojima’s next game is a PlayStation 4 exclusive but it will be released on PC eventually.
Now the question is, what will be his new game? Well, rumor has it that is could be a sci-fi military title. On the other hand, Kojima Productions is also interested in working with Del Toro; we can expect to see some exciting stuff from the studio in the coming years.
