Overwatch is probably the most hyped upcoming multiplayer first person shooter, the game’s characters and maps are all the rage these days which is why the developers have decided to talk a little more about their future plans regarding them.
In the video above, you will be able to hear Jeff Kaplan, the game director for Overwatch at Blizzard Entertainment talking about how they have crafted the heroes and maps for us.
While talking about what they have created already and what they are going to bring to us in the future, Kaplan said that “we have ideas for additional maps and heroes that we’d like to add to the game. We thought about this and we decided the best way to add them to the game is to patch them in as free content and not as DLC.”
So this clarifies what you should expect from them and what you should not expect from them; there will be no DLC in the game!
In later part of the video update, he reiterated the same plan about downloadable content packs but added that currently the developers don’t have an exact timeline of release for the additional heroes. They also aren’t sure how many they will release:
We don’t have an exact timeline of when new heroes will be added to the game – how soon after launch – or how many. That’s something we really need to get a feel for – what’s healthy for the game – so I don’t have a lot of specific details there. We just know when we patch a new hero into the game we want it to be free and not as DLC.
Overwatch is going to hit the racks for PS4, Xbox One and PC in the first quarter of 2016.
