Messaging has been a part of the PlayStation experience for a long, however, it looks like Sony is following in the footsteps of Facebook at least in this regard. They have released the latest PlayStation Messages app, and cut off the messaging option from the console.
This means if you wish to talk to your PlayStation friends online, you will not be able to do so from within the console anymore. Instead you will use the app just like Facebook Messenger is used.
You get to keep a check on who is online, send individual messages or message a group and above all, stay connected at all times. Here’s what they are saying about it:
Use PlayStation Messages to instantly see who’s online and message your gamer friends and favorite groups from your mobile device. Always stay connected with your gamer friends to talk about the games you love to play even while you’re away from your PS4 system.
Some of the features that Sony is boasting of with the PlayStation Messages app are:
- Check your Friends List to instantly see who’s online and what they’re playing.
- Send text or voice messages as well as photos and stickers to your friends or a group with up to 100 players.
- Quickly access your favorite message groups from your favorites list.
This is not the first time these people are venturing into the app world, however, this is probably the first dedicated messaging app from a platform that is not primarily social.
In parallel news, Sony has been making it to the news a lot lately with the PlayStation Experience as well as a number of betas that have been announced for a few games on the PS4 like Hitman and Battleborn.
