We know that Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition doesn’t to run at 60FPS and that has been a let down for a number of fans; however, there is a reason behind it and Vigil Games has recently tried to explain that to the community.
Starting off by saying that it really depends on how the game has been developed from the ground up and how flexible the engine is, they added that getting 60 frames per second would require much more work:
We would have had to redo some levels from scratch to achieve 60fps. Some areas in the game currently run well over 60fps while others run at 30fps. Running the game unlocked allowing the max frame rate would end up resulting in a lot screen tearing and an overall poor experience for the players.
They also revealed that the engine has to be created with 60FPS in mind in order to make it possible to easily attain that level of frame rates but the engine for Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition is “not optimized to run at 60fps on console nor was the data optimized for that.”
In this case, overhaul to the visuals, rendering and the core engine itself would have been needed; unless of course if the developers decided to run Darksiders 2 Deathinitive Edition at “60 fps at the cost of a variable resolution.”
However, they decided against it.
