The Rig is an asymmetrical map in Halo 5 Guardians. It’s a vaulted map with a lot of verticality, and is dominated by a large central pit that can send you to your death if you mistime and misplace your jumps.
Key Weapons & Power-ups
Plasma Caster (2 minutes respawn)
Scattershot (10 seconds respawn)
Sniper Rifle (3 minutes respawn)
Active Camo (2 minutes respawn)
Tower One/Two – There’s only one position here that everyone will go crazy after, and that’s Tower One/Two (One is basically the lower story of Tower Two).
Tower Two is the tallest structure in the map, and gives you a good line of sight to just about every single part of the area. It’s also an excellent place to watch over the Sniper Rifle at the Drill Platform, and is ideal for engaging enemies going from the Pit and Hatch.
The problem with Tower Two though is its demand. It’s going to be fought for a lot, and is generally the hotspot of the map itself. The best way to take control of Tower Two from an opponent is to use the Active Camo.
Sneak up on opponents at Tower Two and shoot them in the face. If that tactic isn’t working, try to acquire the Plasma Caster and lob shots at the top of the Tower.
The Rig Map Tips and Strategy
Red team starts at a slight advantage in this map as they spawn in the central areas, making it easier for them to head to Tower Two and secure it. In doing so, they can also pretty much secure the Sniper Rifle to give the team an early advantage.
Blue team will spawn near the perimeters of the map, putting them at a slight disadvantage. However, don’t be discouraged by the map’s asymmetry. The Scattershot is easily accessible to the Blue team thanks to their spawn location, and can be used to great effect for clearing out Tower Two.
This is a map where controlling all three points in Stronghold can become nearly impossible. It’s best to take control of two, and to defend them aggressively. Use the ones at Top Nest and Load Zone, as both give you a good line of sight.
If possible, try to combine Active Camo with the Scattershot. This deadly combination will allow you to clear out any position you desire, and is especially useful in annihilating enemies in Tower Two and Tower Sneaky.
The maps’ verticality can be a bit tough to master initially, so make sure you do practice before playing a competitive match here. Try to master different techniques to move quickly and prevent yourself from being exposed for too long.
Pay special attention to all the areas in and around Tower Two, and practice moving about these areas swiftly with jumping, thrusting, clambering, and other movement techniques.
It’s also recommended you do so because of the pit in the center of the map. You don’t want to be falling into it and becoming a laughing stock for the team and opponents.
