Nintendo are looking to the future with their NX console, and it appears that the games publishers are watching with interest. EA appear to be one keeping an eye on the development of the NX, which may bring them back to releasing some games on Nintendo consoles.
In an article on wccftech they revealed that EA’s Chief Executive Officer Andrew Wilson said EA will “evaluate any and all opportunities” with Nintendo as the company move towards the launch of their next console. This makes sense really, as this is what publishers always do. They look at what potential the console will have, then decide whether to release their games on it.
The article also quotes EA’s comments on the Wii U way back in 2011 though too:
“What Nintendo’s new console delivers speaks directly to the players of EA Sports and EA Games. Nintendo’s new console will produce brilliant high-definition graphics and new gameplay opportunities. We look forward to seeing great EA content on this new platform.”
Which reveals they had exactly the same strategy with that console, and were happy to work with Nintendo. As we know though EA would later turn their focus more on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Game publishers like EA have to weigh up the cost of developing for gaming platforms, and if Nintendo are going to get their interest they will have to create a console that will deliver. If there is no profit in delivering Nintendo NX versions of their games, we may just end up with another Wii U situation.
