Some time ago PayDay 2 producer put to rest any concerns regarding microtransactions, he said that there will be none of them. However, with the recent Black Market update things changed and OverKill added Microtransactions.
Items were sold that affected weapons stats, of course, fans were outraged and wanted an explanation from the developers.
In addition to stat improving skins, OverKill added safes that players can earn after the end of each match. These safes were opened with drills that were sold separately.
So why did such microtransactions were added to the game? OverKill has the following to say:
We want to do everything we can to make Payday 2 as awesome as possible. In order to do that, we made the decision to triple the size of the crew. To ensure that we can keep the size of the team, we decided that the best approach was to introduce the Black Market update to the game.
Going forward, we hope we can convince the parts of the community that resist this change that this was the right decision to do to ensure the stability of Overkill as an independent developer and the future growth of Payday 2.
Moreover, based on stats gathered by the company they can say that “Black Market update is working as we intended.” Times are tough in the industry and it isn’t easy to make ends meet, I understand where OverKill is coming from but don’t you think there are other ways to add microtransactions, rather than adding those who give privileged players an edge over skilled gamers?
