Final Fantasy XV Director Says Open World Action RPG is the Future

Hajime Tabata, the game director for Final Fantasy XV says that almost everyone is moving towards open world action RPGs now.

It is a fact that there are a number of open world games that are currently being made, and when Square Enix releases Final Fantasy XV – yet another open world title – it might come to the minds of some that open world action RPGs are being over done already.

While talking to the Official PlayStation Magazine, Hajime Tabata said in an interview that it was nothing to be alarmed of.

The Final Fantasy XV director mentioned Horizon Zero Dawn saying that it was also a similar project and that in one way or another everyone is going to move towards this genre.

I think in some ways, everyone is heading in the same direction at the moment. Guerrilla Games’ Horizon is going a very similar way as well. The idea of having an open-world, seamless travel between areas, having to hunt and fight… I think the technology is now at a place where people can try and achieve these things properly.

That last part about the technology being available now certainly makes sense. This would change the way games are developed.

Any how, Final Fantasy XV still doesn’t have a release date (although we know it will be out in 2016) and the saturation of open world titles being released alongside it will also need to be considered once we have a release date.
