Call of Duty Black Ops 3 might have been developed keeping the latest generation of consoles in mind, it is also being released on the last gen.
Beenox is porting the game to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The creative director at Beenox, Thomas Wilson was recently discussing the game where he commented on the expected frame rates per second for Call of Duty Black Ops 3 on PlayStation 3 as well as Xbox 360.
As expected, they weren’t able to reach 60FPS so the target now is 30FPS:
I’d say that we tried to hit that target [60fps]. It becomes harder when you’re working on current gen platforms. We’re basically looking more at something like 30fps. But still, the experience is very enjoyable, otherwise it’s not Call of Duty.
Moving on, he admitted that they had to ditch a few things in order to allow the game to run well on the consoles – apart from skipping the singleplayer.
taking things one step at a time, they “reduce the polycounts on each asset, reduce the amount of memory that each effects will take, and then eventually we make sure that we maintain that core experience intact.”
It is hard to fit Call of Duty Black Ops 3 into the available memory, but they are doing their best and promise that the port is still “viable.”
