Star Wars Battlefront Resolution Was Sacrificed For Framerate on Xbox One and PS4

Star Wars Battlefront beta revealed that the game runs at 720p on Xbox One and 900p on PlayStation 4. Both versions will run at both 60Fps on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

DICE says that framerate is king so they sacrificed resolution in favor of it. Of course, this resulted in Battlefront running at 720p/60Fps on Xbox One and PS4 on 900p/60Fps.

According to DICE Technical Director on Frostbite, Johan Andersson:

If you can look past Xbox One’s lower resolution, the actual content of the game is identical to PS4, and a decent match for PC’s high graphics settings. It means texture and shadow quality are the same between both consoles.

He answered a few questions about the game on Twitter:

Frame rate & fidelity is indeed king, don’t want to sacrifice it for resolution. but a choice each game team does.

In reply to a different question about if they thought of using adaptive resolution.

Thought yes, implemented no. can be extra complex combined with temporal techniques we use.

Meanwhile, the PC version can run at 4K and multi-monitor setups. DICE’s decision may not sit well with fans but in their eyes this was the best of Star Wars Battlefront.

Star Wars Battlefront will release on November 17 for current-gen consoles and PC.
