Playstation 4 interactive-horror exclusive, Until Dawn, may get a sequel down the road, but it will not be a traditional follow-up of the original game; Supermassive Games has said.
Speaking with Playstation Lifestyle; Supermassive Games Managing Director, Pete Samuels said that Until Dawn 2 cannot be created in traditional sense because of different stories and some or all characters being dead:
We do talk internally about what Until Dawn 2 could be, as it clearly can’t be a sequel in the traditional sense, with the same characters facing the same threat, not least of which because in different stories some or all of them are already dead!
Samuel continued that the studio has searched for different things based on which Until Dawn 2 could be created, but it is a little early to discuss those things:
We’ve investigated other ways we could do Until Dawn 2 but it probably is a little early to be discussing that.
Judging from Samuels’ comments, it seems like fans are in for a spin-off title which would act as a bridge between the events of the two games before a sequel comes out:
I think that you should expect the team to build on what we’ve done with Until Dawn, whether it’s in horror or in other genres. We’re already working on one thing that does that, whilst exploring other avenues for our other teams in anticipation of them finishing their current projects.
Until Dawn is currently only available on Playstation 4.
