With Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, developer Eidos Montreal is taking a different approach when it comes to its ending. Unlike Human Revolution, there won’t be a simple “choose your ending” sequence in the game.
Also, developers don’t want your actions in the final level to primarily affect the ending, without keeping your choices throughout the game into account. According to producer Olivier Proulx:
We don’t want to have a ‘choose your ending’ at the end of the game, but it’s complex to build organically, the choice of the players, and have it reflected towards the end of the game.
He went on to say:
I’m not going to say how many endings we have; there’s a few, and obviously the choices in the last map in the game will have a big impact, but the decisions you make earlier can be used to affect the last parts of the game. So, much earlier decisions impact you right until the end.
Choices having proper impact on the narrative arc is what developers want to achieve with Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. We’ll have to wait and see how successful they are.
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided hits shelves in February 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
