Destiny Beats MGSV to Top September PS4 Sales Charts

Last month we had plenty of good titles released, out of which Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain probably stood out. Right?

Wrong – at least as far as the PlayStation 4 is concerned. In a surprising reveal by the PlayStation Blog, it was not MGSV (already being considered as a favorite for Game of the Year) that made it to the top of best-selling games for September.

It was in fact Bungie’s MMO first-person shooter Destiny. Yes, last year’s multiplayer shooter title managed to surpass MGSV, FIFA 16, Rocket League, and Until Dawn to take the first spot.

Perhaps it shouldn’t come too much as a surprise, since The Taken King expansion for the game was generally well-received, and Destiny had already established a very large fan-base and community over the course of its year-long existence.

Nevertheless, to surpass arguably one of the most well received titles this year in MGSV is an impressive feat, and Bungie deserves a lot of credit for their work on The Taken King, even if it meant charging twice as much for the expansion compared to previous DLCs.

The success is made sweeter by the fact that Destiny not only topped the sales chart for the PlayStation 4, but also for the previous generation PS3 as well.
