Every diehard Burnout fan and racing game fans in general have been on edge and eagerly awaiting more info ever since it was announced last week that a spiritual successor to Burnout is currently in development. Not only that but this game is being developed by former Criterion developers who now have their own company, Three Fields Entertainment.
Well that definitely sounds like a success, even if the developer name has changed. Now the studio has revealed more info about the project and claims that it will be based on Burnout 3: Takedown. The announcement was made through Twitter and according to the studio their upcoming game, which is being referred to as “Shiny Red Something” will be the spiritual successor to “the third one”.

There is a high possibility that the developers will be actively seeking input from fans, after all only last week did they ask fans whether they would prefer to see the game inspired by “the second, the third or the fourth one.”
Spiritual successor to which one though??? The second, the third or the fourth one?? #decisions

It should come as no surprise though that the third game was chosen since it is after all considered by many as the best Burnout game. However it does mean that there is a chance the game won’t have the open world fun that was introduced in Burnout Paradise.
There is no release window for the game as of yet but it is being developed for PS4, Xbox One and PC and will possibly also support VR headsets such as PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift.
