While we know that Capcom are working on a remake for Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 0 we are yet to hear about the continuation to a seventh game in the series. In a recent Q&A session we may have been given a hint that Resident Evil 7 is coming.
To celebrate the 600th volume of Dengeki Playstation, this weeks issue had a Q&A session with a number of developers. Two of which were Capcom’s Resident Evil producer Masachika Kawata, and producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi.
When asked if the Resident Evil series has lost its horror touch, Masachika Kawata said:
“Since there’s been more spinoff titles, I can see how it can be perceived in such a way. And of course I believe that we should produce titles that bring out the horror. I’m thinking about it and also preparing for it.”
On whether Resident Evil 7 was in development:
“We’re currently not at a state to talk about it… but please stay tuned.”
Hiroyuki Kobayashi talked about some other Capcom titles, and when asked about plans for a new Devil May Cry and maybe a new offline Dragon’s Dogma:
“They’re also things I’d like to personally do, but there are no plans [for now].”
So while the news may not be good for Dragon’s Dogma and Devil May Cry fans, it looks like there are plans for Resident Evil 7. Fans of the games obviously will have assumed this was the case, but for the producer to give a hint that news is coming, that has to be taken as a good sign. Let’s just hope that it is better than Resident Evil 6.
