EA have revealed some details of what we can expect in the Star Wars Battlefront beta. Open to everyone the company will use it to collect data for network and game balancing, while letting the players get a feel for the game.
Revealing the details for the beta, there will be three modes that people will be able to try:
Walker Assault on Hoth: Fight in epic 40-player battles as a Rebel to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-AT’s by calling in Y-wing bombers. Or, side with the Empire and protect your walkers while utilizing their mighty weaponry to crush the Rebel objective.
Drop Zone on Sullust: Escape pods are crashing down and you and your team must fight to control them. With its frantic 8v8 matches, Drop Zone is sure to put your combat and strategy skills to the test.
Survival Mission on Tatooine: Play alone or with a friend via co-op or split-screen as you battle to hold off waves of Imperial forces including AT-ST’s, TIE fighters, elite stormtroopers and more.
The beta will be available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and PC through Origin between October 8 – October 12.
In a small FAQ section underneath the announcement they also revealed that the beta would be a 7GB download on the consoles, and 11GB on the PC. Pre-loading will begin 1am PT/10am CET on October 7, while this mentions the PC it is safe to assume this will work the same for the consoles too.
On if a level cap would be in place, the answer to this would be that the cap will be level 5. Once this is hit there will be no progress to higher levels, though items will still unlock. Stats will not carry over to the full release.
It was also revealed that up to 40 players are supported for Walker Assault (20 per side), Drop Zone supports 16. Survival mode is either single player, or through co-op which includes both online and offline split screen modes. Local split screen is Playstation 4 and Xbox One only.
