Were you wondering where was Resident Evil Umbrella Corps set in terms of the franchise’s timeline? Well, the name Umbrella Corps suggests it should be at the time when the organization has not been destroyed, but ironically that is not the case.
Masachika Kawata, the Resident Evil Umbrella Corps producer has confirmed a few things about the game.
As far as the the setting of the game is concerned, Masachika Kawata revealed that although Umbrella Corps is no more at the time after Resident Evil 6, the game is set in the present day of the in-game universe.
The game is not a hypothetical, “what-if” side scenario. Umbrella Corps is set in the present day of Resident Evil, which means it’s after the events of Resident Evil 6. It’s almost in an ironic way that we’re using the title Umbrella Corps.
If you know your Resident Evil lore, Umbrella no longer exists at this time in the universe; it’s been destroyed. There’s definitely a kind of a background of the Resident Evil universe that forms the basis of the game’s premise.
Producer James Vance, on the other hand talked about the story saying that since in the world of Resident Evil, Umbrella Corps is no more, there are numerous small organizations wanting to be the next “Umbrella Corps.”
There companies in turn are hiring the Mercenaries to go into “areas where some kind of biological terror incident may have occurred to try to extract something with value.”
Last but not the least, Vance also added that Zombies are going to add an unpredictable threat to Resident Evil Umbrella Corps.
