PS4 Sales Are Affected by Censorship in China: Andrew House

PS4 sales in China are limited due to censorship, according to a statement made by Sony's Andrew House.

PlayStation 4 recently came out in China, along with rival Xbox One. Both consoles are struggling to find solid ground in the market, but why? Sony’s Andrew House has blamed limited PS4 sales on censorship in China.

Same can be said for Xbox One too, as the system is surely facing identical issues in the market. According to Andrew House:

We are still challenged somewhat with a censorship regime that we have to work with. This can be time-consuming. I don’t think it has been a kind of a rocket launch start, but we see tremendous potential for gaming as an entertainment medium in China.

China is a massive market and consoles have been banned for over a decade. Getting fans to show interest in consoles while dealing with the censorship monster is not going to be easy for Sony.

Meanwhile, PS4 is doing tremendously well in other regions. Recent figures showed that Sony has sold over 25 million units worldwide.

However, in China, PC is the most dominant platform thanks to the ban on consoles. Enticing gamers with console games and content will take some time.
