Destiny: The Taken King Court of Oryx guide to understand all runes, tips and strategies on boss battles and how you can enter Court of Oryx.
The Court of Oryx is a brand new patrol activity in the game’s Dreadnaught exploration zone. You can access the Court of Oryx deep within the Dreadnaught; from a hallway lined with statues.
Destiny: The Taken King Court of Oryx
In this guide, I’ve covered everything that you need to understand the Court of Oryx.
Understanding the Court of Oryx and Runes
In the game, the Court of Oryx lets you acquire loot added in the expansion. The court allows you to spawn your own public events, fight bosses of varying difficulties, and acquire rewards based on difficulty.
You’ll have the option of joining someone’s fire-team or spawn your very own. If you decide to spawn your own fire-team, you’ll have to walk to the statue-lined alleyway and sacrifice a Rune.
Tip: Beware of the floor right before entering the event – it’s poisonous.
Runes in the game have different tiers which correspond to the difficulty of the bosses faced in the Court of Oryx.
Tier-1 Rune summons one boss at a time, tier-2 Rune summons a pair of bosses at the same time, tier-3 Rune summons bosses of completely mechanics, and tier-4 Rune summons raid-tier bosses, but we’re not sure right now!
After sacrificing the Rune, the bosses will appear in the center of the arena with the player who sacrificed the Rune getting the most chunk of the loot. After each encounter, Runes undergo a cooldown to give other players a chance.
Once an encounter is finished, a chest will spawn near the position from where the boss or bosses spawned and you will be able to acquire the promised loot.
Boss Fights Strategies
There are a total of 6 tier-1 bosses in the game, each requiring a different strategy. While encountering these bosses, you need to check the annotations at the top of the boss’s head to see what you need to do:
Alzok Dal, Gornuk Dal and Zyrok Dal Boss Fight
This boss fight is a little tricky in the sense that you need to kill all 3 wizards roughly at the same time which might not feel much on paper, but is quite difficult to perform in game.
While having a decent communication and coordination with your fire-team is sure to help, the best strategy involves having a Hunter Nightstalker and using his ‘Super’ to jam all 3 wizards in the same position.
Once this is done, the entire boss fight is just a matter of raining down all players’ Heavy Attacks on the wizards until they’re all down.
This is not at all a difficult boss fight provided that you’ve all 3 elemental attacks on your team: Void, Solar, and Arc.
Similar to other shields in the game, the boss is also equipped with a shield which is color-coded – blue for Arc, purple for Void, and orange for Solar.
Once you’ve successfully brought his shield down, you’ll have a couple of seconds to dish out some damage before the shield is recharged with another elemental weakness. For example, if it was Void first, it may recharge with Arc or Solar the next time.
Therefore, it’s a good idea to have all 3 elemental damage types and you’ll end this boss fight in no time.
This has got to be one of the easiest bosses to beat in the Court of Oryx. The only special power at his disposal is teleportation accompanied with an exhaustion period.
You simply need to start dealing damage to the boss and wait for him to teleport to a different location in the arena.
After the teleportation, he’ll stay in that position for a while; giving you ample time to dish out some damage before the boss teleports again – rinse and repeat!
This boss spawns with a small army of Cursed Thralls roaming around the area. These are just normal Cursed Thralls, but explode into million pieces if you shoot them or let them too close to you.
Moreover, the boss carries a shield which is nearly indestructible – nearly is the word here!
The idea to complete the boss fight is to be mobile and let the boss shoot down Cursed Thralls while they’re near him which will deplete his shield in no time.
Once his shield is depleted, you need to head in and deal some serious damage before the shield is regenerated – rinse and repeat!
Cra’adug and Mengoor
Both of these knights are equipped with really powerful shields which only go away when they’re in close proximity of each other.
The idea to complete this boss fight is to lure both bosses in the same area and focus-fire on one of the knight since it’ll remove shield from the other boss permanently.
You can also use ‘Super’ from the Hunter Nightstalker to tie them up in one place and focus all your fire-team’s attacks on one boss. Lastly, do remember that team communication and coordination is of utmost importance in the game.
This boss also spawns with a large army of reinforcements who help him activate his shield – you know what you need to do!
You need to dish out some serious damage to the boss’s buddies so that his shield depletes and dish out some damage to the boss before the second wave of reinforcements is spawned – rinse and repeat!
