If you are a follower of the League of Legends World Championship you’ll know the big build up has begun. This weekend the live draw for the group stage of the event took place.
This draw featured sixteen teams made up of players from Europe, Korea, China, Taiwan, Turkey and Brazil. The groups selected were:
Group A: Counter Logic Gaming, YOE Flash Wolves, KOO Tigers, and Pain Gaming.
Group B: Fnatic, Invictus Gaming, Ahq E-Eports Club, and Cloud 9.
Group C: SK Telecom T1, H2K, Edward Gaming, and Bangkok Titans.
Group D: LGD Gaming, KT Rolster, Team SoloMid, and Origen.
These teams will take part in the initial group stages all with an eye to winning the total prize pool which now stands at $2,130,000. This will be based on the League of Legends game with Patch v5.18.
Leading up to the final, the group matches will take place over two weeks. The group stages will contain four groups, which have four teams in them. These groups will have a total of twelve matches, plus any required tiebreakers. Each group’s team selection are based on seeding from regional events and the live group draw, which has now taken place.
When these group events have taken place then the tournament moves onto the Knockout Stages. These are based on best of five matches. These Knockout Stages are based on quarterfinals, semi-finals, and finals.
As you can see in live group draw video there is a lot of excitement over the event and there are sure to be plenty of people who will watch the streamed matches. With the huge amount of money on offer, this definitely has a big game feel.
