Rockstar today revealed big updates coming to Grand Theft Auto Online. The bad news for owners of Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 though is that they won’t be heading their way.
With the Freemode Events coming soon to Xbox One, Playstation 4 and PC, and Rockstar Editor finally making its way to the current generation consoles Rockstar have reached the point where they have to admit the older consoles can’t handle the new updates. While this may annoy some fans, this is obviously going to happen with a game that was already pushing the hardware to its limits.
In a statement to Kotaku, Rockstar stated:
“We have continued to optimize the entire game over time in order to squeeze as much memory as we possibly could out of the last-generation hardware and at some point, continuing to add content for those systems could cause the risk of instability to the game overall.”
As much as this will be bad news to people who haven’t made the leap onto the current generation consoles or PC, it was inevitably going to come. With more and more games not arriving on those consoles this is going to become the trend in gaming from this point on.
While it is easy to see that the Rockstar Editor hasn’t made it, some gamers may question why the Freemode Events won’t be there too? This may be down to the more complicated nature of making the Events appear spontaneous, as well as allowing other gamers to spectate on the events.
It looks like as much as the older consoles were keeping up with the pace of gaming, they are finally losing the fight. If you are still on those consoles, now may be the time to make the leap to a new system.
