Bad news folks, it looks like the practice of setting a release window and then delaying it to the next year is not over yet. XCOM 2 is the latest title to disappoint fans with a delay and Firaxis has announced why it is so.
Before digging into the details of the delay, Firaxis talked about how they are trying to keep the standards as high as possible with the game. It is for that reason they need more time to create what they want:
We’ve set a high bar for the sequel and the entire team has been working hard to make sure we deliver a great follow-up to Enemy Unknown. We just need a little more time to make it the best possible game.
Further, they have explained some of the features of XCOM 2 that are more demanding; or in other words, things that are responsible for the delay:
With XCOM 2, we want to have more depth, more replayability, and more investment in your soldiers and this extension will give us the time we need to deliver on our promise to you. We appreciate your patience and continued support as we move towards February.
So now, XCOM 2 fans are going to have to wait until February 5, 2016 before they can try out the sci-fi strategy game on their PCs – it is not being developed for consoles yet.
