CD Projekt Red have posted their financial results for the first half of the year and as expected they have seen huge success. Not surprisingly The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has brought them huge profits.
In the first quarter of the year their operating profit was 291.2 million PLN, with revenues in the second quarter hitting 487 million PLN. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt sold more than 6 million copies in the first 6 weeks and is seeing huge success both in retail and digital releases.
Another thing focused on was the success of the release through GOG Galaxy, and sales through GOG’s website. 1 million activations of the game were done through GOG Galaxy, which may not be a huge amount, but is a good start for a service that is still in beta and was launched at the same time as The Witcher 3.
With the game having a budget of 300 million PLN, the success shows in the fact that the total profit in the first half of the year has been 236, and will still be growing. What the company have to do now is to continue the success that they’ve started. This will not only be done with the two expansion that are coming, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, but also future games. One of these is Cyberpunk 2077 which is in development, and has an estimated 2017 release date, and There is no doubt plans for Witcher 4 are already being made. There is no doubt we’ll have another long wait for that one though.
