I know that statement in the title would look absurd to some but there is a reason why we even had to say that. Neil Young a mobile gaming vet claimed some time ago that Fallout Shelter can outsell Fallout 4, but Bethesda has dismissed his claim.
Neil Young had said last month that “the scale of the mobile business is so big that you may be able to make the argument that that [Fallout Shelter] could end up being a bigger grossing title than the game it is based on.”
This was a big statement specially when it is coming from someone who has been out there in the market. Nonetheless, most of us would not agree to him and neither does Pete Hines, the vice president of public relations and marketing at Bethesda Softworks.
In a clear statement he dismissed the argument by saying “no way, not even close.”
Hines did discuss how the surprise announcement of Fallout Shelter’s release during the unveiling of Fallout 4 has helped boost the interest of fans and pumped up sales as well as revenue:
How often do you get to hear about a game you didn’t even know existed and then can DOWNLOAD it straight away? We felt that was a really cool way to do it, and do it in a larger part of talking about this massive game that has been rumoured and speculated about… it was a perfect alignment of the stars.
Well, Fallout 4 is definitely in no competition with Fallout Shelter.
