With the upcoming release of Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, people are wondering what Hideo Kojima will do next. While EA’s Peter Moore think he’ll “figure it out” with Konami, others are saying Kojima may have a new project already.
MrGamer a Chinese gaming website is claiming that a source has revealed that Tencent are intent on hiring Kojima for a new IP that they are looking to develop, they believe negotiations have already begun.
Tencent is a Chinese company who provide games for Chine and Asia, as well as social media and e-commerce. In terms of the money they make they are also one of the biggest gaming companies in the world. They hold stakes in notable companies such as Epic, Activision Blizzard and Riot Game.
As is typical of rumours based on “sources” none of this can be verified at the moment, but the timing is very interesting. We know that there have been tensions between Konami and Kojima, and that he has left the company. So it makes sense that he could be looking for what project to work on next.
So for now, we await some news on this, and some confirmation on what Hideo Kojima is going to do. We also look forward to playing Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, which could be his best work to date.
Will the success of Metal Gear Solid 5 change any deals he has coming up in the future? Konami may look to fix their problems with him if he makes them a huge profit. If he is joining another company though will it be too late for Konami to make a move?
Again, treat this as a rumour until we hear different.
